10 Healthy Eating Tips to Adopt
  • Drink lots of water every day.
  • Drink lots of milk (at least 4 1/2 servings a day). Strong bones and healthy teeth are very attractive!
  • Limit caffeinated drinks and empty calories: healthy foods with substance will fill you up faster so you won't eat as much.
  • Find healthy alternatives to between-meal snacks: carrots instead of cookies, popcorn or pretzels instead of chips.
  • Don't think that something fat-free or diet foods mean that you can eat twice as much.
  • Don't deprive yourself something you're craving, it's better to eat something unhealthy in moderation that to skip it and then binge later.
  • Make sure you're eating three balanced, healthy meals a day.
  • Skipping meals can make you feel so hungry that you might overeat at the next one.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners, like Nutrasweet.
  • Take a multi-vitamin each day in addition to a healthy diet.
  • Remember, though, vitamins do NOT replace food.
  • Even fast food places have healthy options, if available, take a look at a nutrition chart.

10 Exercise Tips

  • If you have to watch TV, exercise while you watch! Running in place or aerobics are two suggestions.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Get a friend to be your exercise partner.
  • Join clubs or classes after school that have physical exercise incorporated.
  • Try seasonal activities like raking leaves in the fall or shoveling snow in the winter.
  • Try an exercise video – they really can be fun!
  • If you have a dog, take him or her for long walks – it’s great exercise for both of you.
  • Dance every dance at parties.
  • Help out with household chores. Believe it or not, doing the laundry, vacuuming and sweeping can be a workout.
  • Whatever you choose – remember to pick an activity you have a good time doing. Exercise can be fun!
